Your special day is coming fast and you’ve been excitedly counting down the days until you get to say “I do” to your favorite human in the world. It’s going to be an unforgettable day!

We’re in your corner and believe everything will go off without a hitch. But, if it doesn’t, there’s something else you’ll want in your corner…

What is wedding insurance?

Wedding insurance is like most other types of insurance— it’s unlikely you’ll need it, but if circumstances change you’ll have peace-of-mind knowing that you’re covered. In the same way that you can select different policies and types of coverage for your cell phone insurance, you can do the same with wedding insurance.

For example, general liability usually covers up to $1 million of damages for things like vendor-no-shows or the loss of attire, wedding rings, photos, videos, and gifts. You can also add a liquor liability policy which will cover you in the event someone has a bit too much to drink and ends up damaging property or injuring themselves or another guest.

Another policy option you can choose from is called a Wedding Day Cancellation Policy. This is a great way to protect yourself in the event that you need to postpone or reschedule your wedding. To illustrate when you might need to use wedding insurance, here are two quick examples:

  • When you’ve planned a winter wedding in the mountains of Colorado and a storm rolls in, causing the cancelation of flights and making roads impassable for the majority of your wedding party and guests.

  • Or, perhaps your spouse-to-be (or any other essential member of your wedding) gets sick or injured and can’t participate in the wedding.

These are just a few of the scenarios that a wedding day cancelation policy would cover. No matter what the situation might be, you’ll be glad you’re covered!

Why do I need Wedding Insurance?

For starters, it’s becoming a standard practice for wedding venues to require you to have wedding insurance. Apart from that, we all know that life is unpredictable and even a day as special as your wedding isn’t exempt from surprises. If you end up needing to change the date or replace something, it’s nice to know that you’re protected from financial loss.

These are just a few reasons why it’s important to make sure you protect yourself and your big day with an insurance policy. And if nothing else, having wedding insurance will give you extra peace of mind during a time when it would do you good to have one less thing to worry about.

Where do I get wedding insurance in colorado?

No surprise here, but the internet has made it very easy to get wedding insurance. With online providers like WedSafe, WedSure, and EventHelper, it takes less than 15 minutes to get set up with a policy and you can even have the insurance certificate automatically emailed to your wedding venue!

You can also get insurance from your current insurance provider. We’ve sometimes found that local insurance providers can’t add Host Liquor Liability to your policy, which is something that some venues, like Vista View Events, require. Make sure you read the fine print to ensure your policy is covering everything you need.

What info do I need to get Wedding insurance?

You’ll need a couple of things on hand when you’re ready to secure your wedding insurance policy:

  • The minimum insurance specifications from your venue. This information is likely in your contract or in the FAQ section of the venue’s website. If you can’t find it, you can always give your venue a call.

  • Your venue’s physical address, email address, and phone number.

  • Your own personal information.

  • Your wedding date.

  • Your credit or debit card for payment.

How much does Colorado wedding insurance cost?

Here’s the great news, wedding insurance is actually very affordable! You can expect to pay between $150 to $350, depending on the size of your wedding and what you add to your policy. For example, adding the wedding cancellation policy (which also covers rescheduling) will increase your coverage as well as your premium.

Getting insurance for your wedding in Colorado (or elsewhere for that matter) is one of the best things you can do to make sure that your day, your venue, and your guests are covered. With this in place, you won’t need to worry about something not going according to plan. We hope you never need wedding insurance, but if you do, you’ll be glad you have it!
