The magic of planning your wedding day in the Colorado mountains is that no season is off-limits. In the Summer you can expect a backdrop of hazy blue skies and an eruption of spring-florals.
Meanwhile, the Winter months are equally dramatic: expect snow-capped mountains and a romantic holiday-aesthetic. There is something quintessential and nostalgic about a Colorado Winter Wedding.
Trade the flower-crowns for bridal furs, the peonies for evergreens and you can work with nature to create your dream fairy-tale aesthetic.
That said, it takes thoughtful planning to pull off a spectacular Winter Wedding. One of your priorities should be making your guests feel well-cared for. From the decor to the food you serve, there are plenty of ways to make sure that your guests feel cozy + happy throughout the day.
While we may not host winter weddings here at Vista View Events (we’re open May through October!) that won’t stop us from sharing our favorite winter hacks for the snow-capped season!
Here are our Top Five Tips for Hosting a Winter Wedding in Colorado
01. Ceremony Essentials
While most might opt for an indoor ceremony during the Winter months, there is something beautifully dramatic about an exterior snow-scape backdrop while you say your vows. You don’t need to compromise on coldness. Rather, invest in some stylish and discreet outdoor heaters to keep your guests toasty and warm. These can be decorated with florals or greenery and some tasteful string lights that blend seamlessly into your decor.
Place your heaters strategically. Think about elderly relatives who might appreciate the proximity to warmth. Prep your planner to be on the lookout and intentional in seating your guests strategically around the heaters and disperse them around your venue for maximum coverage.
Throw some blankets and faux furs over the back of your ceremony chairs. Not only will your guests appreciate the comfort, but it gives them the option of snuggling up mid-ceremony should they get a little chilly. Not only will these add to the luxury winter look and feel, but are a fantastic practical fix to stop your guests feeling the breeze.
02. Play With Fire
Planting fire-pits around your wedding reception creates natural points for your guests to congregate around as they mingle and chatter. Fire-pits are the most stylish way to fight the cold and will only add a degree of elegance to your decor. Optimize these cozy-corners by providing lounge cushions and ottomans for your guests to sit on as they sip on some celebratory bubbles.
03. Winter FARE
Leaning into the winter-theme of your wedding gives you so many options to play with when it comes to food and drink. Consider a nostalgic favorite by setting up gourmet s’mores stations, serving hot cocoa, and a custom hot toddy (hello spiked cider!) to your guests while they await your reception.
Lean into holiday food from around the world to capture the festivities of the season. Consider an Italian panettone rather than a traditional wedding cake. Serve a decadent winter roast with plenty of sides as your reception dinner. Play with seasonal vegetables and enjoy winter berries for dessert.
04. Information is Everything
At the end of the day, no matter rain or shine, your guests need to know what to expect. Prep them via your wedding invitation and website with all the necessary information they need to embrace a Colorado Winter.
Think about those coming from out of town: what practical information might they need to be briefed on in order to be fully prepared. Consider a suggested clothing list, advice on types of rental cars and transportation or recommended packing items.
05. Enjoy The Day
